I posted on here a few months ago looking for a field in Mansfield where I can train my new lab. I looked on the tax maps and knocked on doors, but haven't had any luck. My pup is almost 4 months now, and I really need somewhere bigger than my backyard to train. If anyone has a vacant pasture or knows a guy who knows a guy, I would love to find somewhere on the south side of DFW where I can go throw some bumpers after work.

Do you have a school in the neighborhood? I use the school grounds by my house. Hand thrown or with a dummy launcher. Police stopped by once and watched the action and then moved on. Bring a poop scooper so you don't leave anything behind and wear out your welcome.

I train in a big park and an elementary school soccer field when I train during the week. This time of year there aren't many people in the park because it's cold. Google Earth is your friend. I also use a big/wide power line easement from time to time. Water on the other hand is very hard to find in Dallas.

I have steered away from the city parks / schools / Joe Pool because of the leash laws, but I guess It's better to ask forgiveness than permission. Thanks for the tips.

empty soccer fields, school yards are great for drills.

finding water and terrain is the tough one

There is a great place but it's in Sanger, long way for you. You also need some friends to throw marks, bumpers

I think its called Ackerman's, long time ago we used to train there. Lots of water, with areas to train "cheating the bank" ...and water, land back in the water, training holding a good line.

You should look at joining a club, lots of dog knowledge and training partners. That's what makes it fun, dog people are great people!!

I am already planning to come check you out as soon as I get my pup gun broke. Probably some time in March.

I run rabbits with my Basset hound and found lots of public land. I usually go to the Crp Of Engin. land on Benbrook. Hundreds of acres, and recently I have been running the Resource Center nature center by TCJC south campus off I20. Lots of wide open land at the RC nature center
