I'm looking for a new rifle, probably a 308. I am looking for suggestions. I would like to spend 6-800. Will use for varmint hunting and my wife will use for deer. I've looked at the following but not limited to these
Rem sps
Rem vtr
Savage( I think model 10)
Tikka varmint

Savage or tikka for sure.

Savage predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. Accustock and Accutrigger, rebarrel down the road if desired.

I have never shot a Tikka but there are some big Tikka fans out there. I just don't like how short action caliber Tikka rifles are not true short action bolts chambers, they just put a bolt stop in a long action. Again, I have never shot a Tikka and I'm not a gun expert so that could be a stupid reason as to why I have not bought one...

I won't buy a 700. Too many recalls. If I had one given to me, I might keep it, but a new trigger and safety would be the first thing I bought for it. Savage just makes great reliable guns.

Savage, one of the Accustock models. Should shoot 1/2" groups.

Tikka, but with a trigger job.

Browning A or X bolt. Best trigger for factory gun that I've had.

Remington 700, but with a trigger job.

Not in any particular order. Haven't owned a savage so I can't comment on it.

Savage Predator Max 1 in whichever caliber you choose. I'm picking up a new one in a few minutes in 243. They're fantastic for the money. I've shot one in 22-250 several times.

Savage 10, 12, or 16. Be sure and get the accutrigger/accustock combo

I have owned four Savages. Great rifles, and I have worn out multiple ejector springs.

Now I am onto Tikkas. Bigger ejector, better extractor design, side bolt release, awesome factory triggers, barrels just as good as Savage's, 60 degree bolt throw. I now have two full custom rifles built on Tikka actions, and love them!
