In your personal opinion what is the priority order for duck species to mount. I have a few ducks in the freezer and a few on the wall already but am trying to decide which ones look better on the wall and are a must have.

I have a hooded merganser, mallard drake, and wood duck on the wall.

Ive got a Redhead, Green winged teal, and gorgeous gadwall in the freezer.

I want a canvasback, pintail, cinnamon-teal, and widgeon

Which would you get first?

Teal, redhead, gadwall, in that order.

Widgeon are one of my favorite birds to mount, I just like their shape and the way they lend themselves well to just about any kind of mount.

With what you have in the freezer I would go Teal, Gadwall, Redhead if for no other reason than Teal are the most delicate in the freezer and if it's going to be a while I'd get those thin skinned birds done first.

If I ever get a fully plumed out BWT drake I'm gonna have to make a special trip to try to get a cinny. Only other mount I really want is the teal trio.

Congrats on the birds and the goal that's cool. I would say personal opinion has a lot to do with geography. My order would be Redhead, Gad, Teal. Being in N Tx I shoot about 2 redheads a year and could get you a teal with a baseball bat most hunts.

Good luck on your quest for the wants up

Thanks man, Ive only shot a few redheads, the one in the freezer doesn't have that real distinct black line on its belly, he's just kinda peppery so I'm not sure if he's the one to mount. Hoping I get a better one, have shot a few pintail but no big sprigs, still waiting on that canvasback...

My dogs first mallard...that was my first bird to mount. I let KT and Goldy wisely talk me into mounting a big gadwall. It's still by far the biggest gadwall I've seen.

IMHO out of what you have in the freezer 1-GWT, 2-Gadwall, 3-Redhead.
Out of what you want 1-Cinny, 2-Pintail, 3-Widgeon, 4- Can.

I have four ducks in my freezer ready for the taxidermist right now... The first one's to go will be the pair of Canvasbacks (hen and drake) and then a really gorgeous storm wigeon. Last one will be the first drake mallard I shot in TX.

For me, I just have this bucket list of birds that I'd like to have on the wall. The only ones I want after the ones mentioned above are a Wood duck drake, and maybe possibly a nice bull sprig.

I thought the OP was asking in which order he should mount the ducks he had! My mount bucket list is a drake of every North American bird! Last year I mounted a Nice Wigeon and Hooded Merganser, this year I have a big Mallard drake I'll be picking up soon. I hoped to mount 2/year, I'm cutting it pretty close this year. Still hoping for a nice sprig before the season closes!
