Hey guys i'm new to the forum and a relatively new duck hunter (2 yrs). I'm going to school at Tech and i had ducks all over my hunting holes near Lubbock from Nov 1st to right before Christmas. I go home for break and returned today to find no ducks or geese on my spots... Pretty frustrating. I'm very new to this west texas waterfowl hunting (and the Lubbock weather!)
Anybody have an idea about how this recent ice and cold weather affected the birds around here? Not sure if theyre just on other open water nearby or migrated on south from the freeze.
Thanks for helping a rookie out.

They need food and open water, and will find it. If your normal spots are froze over they will not be there. Just wait, later this week temps will moderate and birds will find the open water again.

I was in Lubbock Friday and Saturday. Saw 10s of 1000's of geese and ducks flying both days.

On the 4TH of Jan we saw all kinds of sandhill cranes flying around Brownsville.

Just got a report from two of my buddies out in Lubbock. They shot a two man limit this morning so the birds are still out there.

Are They duck hunting or after some geese? One thing i haven't thought of is that i'm hunting just water sources and I bet theyre feeding in dry fields more than anything right now.

We went for a duck hunt but were hoping to get some geese or cranes fly over as they sometimes do. After we got a limit of ducks we went to see if we could find some geese and cranes. Around where I hunt I didnt see very many geese and absolutely no cranes. Theyre just not in my area at the moment but we did see lots and lots of ducks. I did see some geese and a few cranes on my way back to lubbock though. Theyre out there just have to find them.
