Ok, now since I got your attention. I need an approximation as to what I can start on to try to stretch out my rifle out for next weekend test.
7mm08, 24" barrel, 140 grain Nosler ballistic hunting tip, 42 grains IMR 4064, 1 in 11" inch twist
Sorry no speed data.
100 yards to 500 yards? MOA or MIL
Just best guess on bullet drop so I kinda know where to start.

You really need to have some idea of velocity for best results. You can walk it in but record your drops then you can go back to jbm and adjust velocity to match.

Yes I agree. Thought it may be a shot in the dark but don't have a Crono.
Guessing somewhere in the ball park 2600 to 2700 fps?
Well I will see what the drops are 100 to 300 and then try to go from there.

With that load and barrel length Quickloads shows 2854fps. Sometimes that program is almost dead on other loads it is a bit off, really depends on the gun too.

If it were me and without a chrono I would start with that velocity, and do what Dee recommended

Invest in a Chrono...they are worth it.

Try this. Its not set in stone.

200 .4 Mil
300 1.0 Mil
400 1.8 Mil
500 2.7 Mil

If you want all that in MOA, mutiply those Mil values by 3.43

That was 260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, and I bet yours is real close to it. Should get you on target, adjust from there as needed.

Dang close to what I come up with and the velocity I posted above.

Expect that to be close enough to get you started. Adjust accordingly from measured drops from shooting. By that shoot at 100 and other yardages.

That chart is from the Hornady Ballistic Calculator free on their web page. Have found it to be pretty accurate if given good data.

Those drop figures will definitely get you on target. But to walk in backwards on your velocity, you will need much further than 300 yards. At 500, it will get me really close, but I prefer 600 or further to calculate my velocity with using field dope and running the environmental conditions.

Thanks Chad, since I got into reloading I probably need to get a Crono but haven't done it yet. Just now getting a little fimillar with reloading and just looking at grouping. And really haven't tried to stretch my yardage until our last Hunting Challenge of 300 yards. Have learned a whole lot since Last Jan to now thanks to a lot of input on here including yourself but still have long ways to go.

It'll probably be 1/10 to 2/10s more drop than Fireman JG posted.

That's from shooting alongside a buddy with a 7-08 and me shooting 260. He always ran 1/10 or so behind
