It's a toss up between 308 and 7.62x39. My savage is a tack driver but it's bolt. My ak's are great for multiple shots on big groups.

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

i SOOOO want to buy one of those, but I just can't convince myself to buy a Savage. Plus, we don't have any hogs.

suppressed 300 blackout or 6.8 with an IR laser and helmet mounted NV. Most 308 AR's are too heavy if you're on the move for any distance in my opinion.

I like:
10mm 12 Gauge Slug 223 243 308 30-06 I have killed them with all of these except the 10mm. I don't own one of those......yet! Saw Uncle Ted kill two Stags with the STI Pistol in 10mm. looks like a good round.

I have killed 2 hogs on the same sit with my bolt action .243 on a couple of occasions. I am not into taking out the entire sounder....I only take what I/buddies want to eat. Awesome renewable resource IMO. I like the .223 for single hits to the noggin, but any other placement and a hog with any size probably isn't going down.
I just bought a Weatherby S2 .308 in Hog Reaper camo and it is suppose to be my next hog gun (that is what I tell my wife anyway!) I got my daughter one in the compact size and with just plain black syn stock. Both guns have factory installed muzzle brakes (threaded for silencers, possible on a later date).

Most 308 AR's are too heavy if you're on the move for any distance in my opinion. They are heavy, so I've gotten into the habit of carrying a shooting stick with me whenever I go hog hunting. I sure like the hard hitting power of a 180 grain .30 cal soft point bullet. It makes the extra weight of the rifle tolerable. I like using a shooting stick because I hunt in an area that has gentle rolling hills. They're not really hills, but if a hog is on somewhat higher ground, I like to shoot from a standing position to ensure that the bullet hits the ground if it passes through or (horror!) I miss.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

Kills them as dead as any other caliber. Handy little gun.

Add another .308. I have 3 AR's in .308. The weight isn't an issue to me. I like 7.62 x 39 & 6.8 also.

Add another .308. I have 3 AR's in .308. The weight isn't an issue to me. I like 7.62 x 39 & 6.8 also. Weight IS an issue to almost everyone who walks and carries. DPMS just came out with a sane, 8-lb AR, and I bought one in .243. Great move. Kinda torpedoes the prevailing idea that a black rifle must weigh 17 pounds and be outfitted with so many add-ons that the gun looks like a Christmas tree covered in tasteless ornaments. I also love my AR in 7.62x39. Cheap Russian steel ammo in 123 and 154 sp configurations kill hogs with efficiency, and you don't have to restrict yourself to head shots either!

my favorite caliber is .308
current/often used rifle is Remington 700 VTR Target 5R with B & C stock, / thermal
alternate rifle is a Ruger SR 762 / thermal
+ Winchester 70 Stealth / ZEISS Mil Dot
+ SAKO TRG-42 in 338 Lapua / ZEISS Z8 (a lot of gun but I don't mind shooting hogs with it )

First is the 6.8spc why because its light has the recoil of a 5.56 with 80% of the .308's knockdown power at 300 yards.
Second is the .308 its second because there is muzzle rise when firing rapidly and the AR10's are heavy.

Savage .22 mag, head shots only of course. Trusty Winchester 70 30-06 has killed many a hog.
Recently got a Savage .308 Model 10 PC with a AAC Silencer which should be deadly!
