Posted for broadheads in bow section. Gonna get Slick Tricks, but more suggestions are welcome.
30-06: yes I know bulls are tough and blah blah blah but I know that cows can be killed with this caliber. I'm thinking Hornady, Hornady American Whitetail, Federal Fusion, or Federal blue box in 180gr (currently zeroed at 150gr). Yes, no, maybe so?
Also, since vitals are forward, for an archery kill, shoot the same as you would an axis?
Thanks

I love the Federal Classic. I almost got in on one of these hunts but was a bit late. I would of used the same caliber and the Fed 180 and shot it where the guide told me if a hunt had still been available. Good luck.

I've shot the Fusion 150 grain loads for a lot of years. They hold together well and penetrate well with great expansion.

No duh. At least with the gun My main concern was archery shot placement. I've read that they have bigger lungs and smaller hearts for their size and that the heart is shielded by shoulder blade. So wait for quartering away shot and tuck into shoulder?

I'd just play the new garth brooks record really loud from the blind. It should kill itself if you do that.

Well he decided not to get slick tricks for some reason. He's just gonna stick with Rage 2-blade. Got Fusion 150gr though.

Maybe I'll pick up some Hypos

I shot a bull with 150 fusion out of my 300 Win Mag. The bullet performed well and the nilgi made it 40 yards. It will work. Having said that, if I were to do it again I would use 180 grains in a premium bullet such as an A frame or nosler partition.

I would go 168gr Barnes Vortex. Tough bullet that will penetrate deep but also expand on flesh only impacts. My opinion is 180 gr in a 30-06 has the velocity low enough that it will not penetrate as well as a "tough" 165 gr bullet will.

I am going on a Nilgai bull hunt next week. Using my 30-06 with 180 gr Nosler Partions from Federal. My 30-06 likes this round and it's worked well on other tough animals. Hope this is a repeat. Good luck and hope your mom and sis are ok.

Lol we saw Sako Hammerheads and it was $33. Dad immediately said " I'm not spending $30." Nuff said, NPs and TTSX cost upwards of $40.

the way i see it, ammo is the cheapest part of the hunt. its one place i feel most folks shouldnt go the cheap route. nilgai are tough animals and usually need a good bullet to put one down for good.

Yes but face it, this young man isn't making the decisions here. He is a young fella learning and growing in the outdoors. Every decision, right and wrong, he and his hunting family make, is a learning opportunity. I'm sure if it were his money earned and spent he may make different decisions. But still, at least he is seeking knowledge.

So good job chit, keep it up.

my 165gr Barnes Tripleshok 30.06 bullets loaded in Federal cartridges would be my choice if it were me. I've seen those bullets do amazing things to very tough animals.
