I am breaking out the waders today and will be sitting on some water this evening and tomorrow morning hoping to touch off some even older shells at ducks coming in.
I'm pretty ecstatic to be honest. Both at finally getting back in the game, but also that my waders still fit - because I've put on some chub since I was a younger and skinnier lad when I bought them.

The waders were still water tight, which was good because it was 28 degrees and there was a thin ring of ice around the edge of the flooded field we hunted. It was cold. Damn cold. But it was worth it - we limited out (6 man limit) by 0730. Mostly teal, but a few pintails and a couple of mallard hens as well. Had an absolute blast and I think I really got the blood flowing again. That was my first time hunting in that area and the number of ducks was amazing. Geese everywhere too. Down on the coast, it was pretty rare to get more than a handful of birds at one time coming into the decoys - here we had groups of 200+. It actually made it a little more difficult on the shooting for me because I had to really concentrate on one single instead of the whole group. We hunted out of Pintail Hunting Lodge near Garwood. I'd go there again in a heartbeat - Al Shimak is the owner, and is an awesome guy to talk to and a wonderful host. I'm taking a really nice green wing drake and hen to the taxi this weekend, so my free trip is still going to cost me...... Edit - added a pic for funsies: I'm the short fat guy next to the tall dude

Glad you had a great hunt.
I know the Pintail crew very well...even helped out there once upon a time.
Who was your guide?

Who was your guide? I can't remember his name for the life of me. Real nice guy, probably late 40's with a chocolate lab. Rock maybe was his nickname? I'll think of it at 3 in the morning or something like that.

You're "free" trips gonna cost you a lot more than a taxi bill. New dekes, boat, shotgun, etc etc... Welcome back to the most expensive outdoor addiction of em all!!!
Cigarettes are like hamsters. Perfectly harmless til you put it in your mouth & light it on fire
