When a buying a dog from an individual, how do you know if you are really getting what you pay for. I have heard of people (believe it or not) that lie and forge the paper work of their dogs. I have been looking on different websites at labs for sale. I am only looking at this point, but will be in the market to buy one in the next few months. I have seen several individual sellers that have the same price or close to the same as breeders. Yet others are much cheaper. How do I verify their papers?

I think that you would be more likely to get fake papers from a breeder, but the overall fish is small.

Price has a lot to do with bloodlines, titles, and health clearances.

Dna dog and have American field or registering organization verify parents.

Go with a reputable breeder and you won't have to worry about it.

Reputable dog breeders are like reputable used car salesman. They do exist but all have unhappy customers.

Nope.

But to anyone that disputes my statement I guarantee you will have a much better chance of knowing what you are getting by asking on forums for reputable breeders or better yet going to trials/tests and meeting them yourself than you do my randomly searching websites.

My advice is to go to hunt test or other similar event. You will meet tons of people, amateurs and professionals. More importantly, you will be able to see dogs run and handlers handle which will help you decide what you do and don't want. You will get WAY more info in one afternoon than hours of scouring the web (dog people aren't necessarily tech people).

entryexpress is a good way to find events.

My $0.02 and probably not worth that smile

I thought everyone that owned pointers knew about Mr Miller.
He sure caused a lot of people, a lot of headaches, but did put out some exceptional dogs.

No.
You and I own Vizsla.
I only know about Miller because my grandpa, and first husband ran English pointers.
