Never eaten in Alice, but we stop at a place in San Diego(a few miles west of Alice) called Tacaria Jalasiense or something like that. Good tea in the summer and always been good food. For us its either that or Whataburger.

We call that place the Jali, and yes they have good food. Might run into you over there one of these days.

Chente's is about as good as it gets in Alice, as far as I am concerned, for Mexican, American, whatever. Right off 281 business heading south out of Alice, turn left (east) the last signal light heading south out of town. (You are taking the FM 665 exit.) Chente's is just about 1/2 a block. Good on everything. I always enjoy the catfish plate at lunch. seasoned just right. My BIL enjoys the carne guisada. Best around for my money.
Crossroads Barbeque on 281 business, about 3 blocks north of the overpass is pretty darned good. They don't skip on the servings, that's for sure! Is it the best barbeque I ever ate? ....meh, maybe not, but it is pretty darned good. Certainly good enough to keep me coming back.
There is a Taqueria (It may very well be Jalisience) on Hiway 44, east side of Alice(look for the Hospital it is across from there)that is pretty good too. Always crowded, if that tells you anything. Right down the street from Chente's is a hole-in-the-wall called "The Big Taco". Go by there any morning (they open at 4:30 a.m.) for just what the name says...a huge taco...I mean stuffed full, or a plate breakfast. You get your money's worth, that is for sure.

Im sure I must have butchered the spelling of it and probably the pronunciation... but you caint here that We stop through from time to time on the way home, might see ya around. We should stick out, usually we are the only white folks in there and they have to find a waiter that speaks English for us... or we get by with what little we know.

There were a bunch of white folks in there last weekend, more than I've ever seen. Normally when we go I'm the only gringo in the group, but I'm pretty dark complected so I normally don't get funny looks til I start talking. oh & you spelled it right, I believe.

For breakfast and lunch, I'd recommend Notex bakery. They have awesome breakfast tacos and carne guisada.... Not to mention all the Mexican bakery items. I don't think they open for dinner, but definitely get some good stuff.
