Hi everyone,

I'm new to Texas and new to hunting and was wondering if anyone hunts rabbits at Granger Lake near Austin? I've been told by some locals that it's not very common.

Also if anyone wants some company out that way I'm willing to follow and not make any noise!

Not sure about this year but I hunt hogs out there. I usually see one or two but I think the coyotes and bobcats keep them in check pretty good...

themanfromsnowyriver welcome Granger lake is in my backyard. Do you really like to hunt rabbits that much? Not that hunting rabbits is such a bad deal, but do you like to eat'em is why your after them? Just wondering.

Thanks for the responses guys,

I do like to eat rabbits, but generally I was thinking that to start out small game might be the way to go. I got some squirrels last week and that was fun, but didn't see any rabbits (only tracks).

Any advice about which areas are good to hunt?

I believe it was Willis, north of the hook in the creek where the trees are.

Ok, over at Doppler should be better, that's not to far from where i am and i have a load of rabbits, cottontails, jackrabbits. That might be better place to go.

Thanks for the info, but I can't seem to find Doppler on the TPWD or the COE maps. Where exactly is it?

I'm from Sydney for real, just moved to Austin to start a job here, liking it so far. Basically no-one hunts in Australia so I thought I'd give it a try while I'm here.
