I am in the process of purchasing my first AR-15. I'm going with the Windham Weaponry SRC .223/5.56.
I'm purchasing flip-up front/rear iron sights, scope & red dot to go on it.
Is it best to install the iron sights first and get those sighted in before installing/sighting in the scope and red dot?

Also, what tactical light would you guys recommend for under/around $100?

Thanks

What do you mean by "scope & red dot to go on it"?

Something like a magnifier in front of the red dot?

Doesn't matter the order. The red dot and flip up sights might be cowitness so that should help getting it close when doing the second one.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about having a long range scope on the gun and then a smaller red dot on an angle mount.

I understand how it all works believe me. However, I'll place bets that he is going to have BUIS in the down position with a long range scope and micro red dot either attached to the scope or to the rail. Again I'm just guessing, but this is his first AR and I see a lot of guys try putting everything under the sun on their first AR. Until they start to carry that thing around they decide to start taking crap off of it LOL.

By the way your magnifier goes behind your red dot not in front of it.

You know my point, are you just trying to be argumentative? I am trying to get the OP to explain himself fully without making a bunch of assumptions, so that we can help him set up his rifle correctly. As you mentioned, we both know how tacti-cool works. Iron sites with a long scope like in your picture is ungood.

Fold down front and rear iron sights as a backup. Scope like longrail shows with red dot mounted to top of scope.

Boomshockalocka lol..

How are you mounting the scope? BUIS (back up iron sights) only work if you can flip it up. If the scope is mounted over the back sight and it's not a QD mount it defeats the purpose of BUIS. If you're set on the red dot setup I'd put it on the rail at a 45 degree angle so you can move your rifle 45 degrees and still keep you cheekweld and shooting position. If the red dot is on top of the scope you won't be able to shoot it with a proper cheekweld and it will be about 4-5 inches over the muzzle might be kind of hard to sight in.

Well then yes, sight in your irons first once they're sighted in fold them down and sight in your scope. Then sight in the red dot. Also don't skimp on the QD mount if you want it to retain zero

Do that.
And I'd do the 45 degree red dot like kroyal showed in the picture. Or save some money and do 45 degree flip up iron sights and skip the red dot.

What about something like this on a QD mount?
Red dot to the side of the main scope.
And I would move the laser.

Oh goodness... Man to each their own, believe me I've been there done that.. It's not worth the moeny you waste on the crappy scopes/red dots. If I had all the money I blew on crappy/cheap AR15 accessories I could probably buy another 2 AR15's. Buy once cry once is the best thing I've ever heard when it comes to guns. That's why I run $230 dollar optic mounts on my rifles now. I used to run cheap mounts with cheap optics and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn because if wouldn't hold zero. I'm not trying to rain on your parade just trying to give you my experience.

If you want to go cheap go with primaryarms.com they sell cheap optics but are great quality for the price, same with their mounts.

When I was talking about 45 degree mounts with the red dot you should be shooting like this.

I have only removed my EOTECH 512 once but it returned to zero.

I just set mine up.

Shoot the iron sights first. Sight them in.

Fold them down and install the scope then sight it in.

Rifle:

Final target after sighting in scope:

1 second shots:
