Situation: I have a 10/22 that I am scoping for the kids. My plan was to remove a Minox 3-9x40 from my AR and mount on the 10/22, and replace the Minox with a new 4-12x44 Vortex Crossfire II on the AR.

I received the Vortex, and got to thinking I might just put it on the 10/22. I have a set of Leupold rings already mounted on the 10/22 and the Vortex fits perfectly with no barrel interference from the bell of the scope. Weight differences between scopes is only a few ounces and is moot.

Now, personal magnification preferences/biases aside, is there any legitimate reason why I shouldn't go this route (hope the question makes sense)? What am I missing?

Aside from the fact that you haven't tried the vortex on your AR, and don't know if you would like it better than the Minox for your intended purpose, then I don't see an issue. If it were me, knowing I didn't at least try it on the weapon I initially bought it for, I would always be questioning if the Vortex would be any better than the Minox...

Decisions Decisions...
The only thing you have to lose is a few minutes mounting scopes, and a few rounds of sighting in...

Good point, but my intention wasn't so much to replace the scope on the AR as it was to scope the 10/22. Gonna have to think on this a little more. Thanks for the input.

I think you will be wasting the extra magnification on the .22. You have the potential for a lot longer shots with the AR and 9x is plenty on a .22. Other than that, it should be fine either way.
