New to calling and I just picked this up after another thread recommended it. Why didn't someone tell me it was so damn hard! I took it out of the package after seeing some videos on how to best use the call. So I went to use it and after about 30 seconds I collapsed on the floor from the lack of oxygen. I came to but I'm still twitchy and out of breath. Holy smokes! Man this is gonna take A LOT of practice, many nights of being cursed out by friends and family in listening distance and the butt end of many jokes.

And this is supposed to be the "easy" call! Lol

Something is bad wrong if a faulks is requiring a lot of air. Bad wrong! I would claim tou should lock it up, long before you ran out of air.

He is learning, the key is back pressure.

Doesn't take much air to produce sound. Putting together a string is what harder though.

You'll be ok. You have the only two guys in the world that would recommend a Faulks call helping you out.

Back pressure is your friend and practice. That call should not be that bad to work. Though I have some other calls and several costing a lot more the Faulks on the lanyard gets lots more use than the others combined.

That funny! Have you noticed they are both call makers confused2. One of which hs been making calls longer than any of us have been alive. The question was not what is the "Best" call on the market. The original question which he and I both had an answered Faulks was, "What is the best call out there for around $20". There are better calls out there but not a lot for $20.

If we are being honest. I bought a spec call from Faulks. It was $18. I got ripped off. It is about half the size of a kids toy, hard to run and I just don't care for it. I wouldn't recommend that call for even $5. For their duck call, $20, you can't beat a Faulks. It has a much softer sound. Right now I can tell you the greenheads at my lease are so jumpy you can't honk at them. About the most you are going to do it some short pops, a quack when they way out on a swing and some feeding chuckles (Not when they are close to you). Anything more than that right now would run off the birds at my place.

Hey! I bought me one also (was the OP of said thread) and I love it... its way easier to run than the Haydels I had & takes way less air. It really does sound great and has a more natural tone to it as well; also if I screw up voicing the call it still sounds like a duck. I'm really liking the call, but it does lock up from time to time at all volume levels. I was looking for a softer call that I could use at lower volumes for tight coves/timber and on call shy birds & the DR-66 is spot on for that. I'm not lying when I say the weekend prior to receiving the Faulks I was turning away ever bird I called with my other call; this past weekend with the Faulks I was actually pulled in a few groups. Could be a coincidence, could be luck.. who knows. I'm a believer & will be buying more call from them.

FWIW; I've only been calling for 2 seasons now, but have tried the Haydels Big Barrel, Faulks DR-66, Uncle Si, and a Buck Gardner call. The Faulks call cost the least of all of them & has worked best for me so far (the Uncle Si would be 2nd but I handed it down to a DD fan).

With out Wal's & DogCatchers recommendations I would of never even heard of Faulks so I owe you guys big time... I've bought a few coyote calls from DogCatcher so I recon I'll pick up one of Wal's Duck calls before next season.. Thanks guy!

I don't htink it was coincidence at all. I have used a Faulks for a long long time. It has been the death of a lot of greenheaded birds. I am glad to see you reporting back.

I guess I'm the 3rd guy. My favorite brand of calls, by a long shot.

Look out Hayraker, Secretariat may be coming from second to last for a triple crown win.
