Shawnee, KS, IMR Legendary Powders has created a new line of sophisticated extruded powders that are loaded with more features than any other brand of powder available today. Enduron™ Technology features a built in copper fouling eliminator, insensitivity to temperature extremes, small sized grains for easy flow with an ideal loading density, and there are no ingredients considered harmful to the environment.

IMR 4166™ is the first in the series of Enduron™ propellants. It’s a perfect burn speed for cartridges like the 308 Win/7.62mm NATO, 22-250 Remington, 257 Roberts and dozens more. IMR 4166™ is a positively versatile, match grade propellant.

IMR 4451™ Another new Enduron™ powder that gives top performance in the venerable 30-06, 270 Winchester and 300 Winchester Short Magnum, to name just a few. This propellant is ideally suited for many mid-range burn speed cartridges.

IMR 7977™ is the slowest burn rate Enduron™ Technology powder. It is a true magnum cartridge propellant with outstanding performance in such cartridges as the 300 Winchester Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum, 338 Lapua and more.

Has anyone seen these, know any more that this press release?

Looks like they are trying to compete with Hodgdon's CFE.

Hey Dan,

Yes. I spoke to one of the powder guys about 4166 that I heard through the grapevine also. It is similar to CFE 223, but for the 308 size rounds. It has the copper fouling reduction in it like the CFE 223. I would like to get my hands on some to test and play with. I asked about when we can see these, and he did not know. He also said there were some other powders coming out with them, and you listed them there.

Compete with? Doesn't Hodgdon own IMR?

Yes, Hodgdon does own IMR. Compete may have been a bad choice of words, it's marketing.

Would you laugh if I said that I'd settle for reasonable availability of the old powders? That and Federal 215 primers.

Hodgdon does own IMR and Winchester powders, but they keep those others around and bring out new ones in each line which is cool. Lots of their customers have been using the IMR or Winchester line for years and would not want to change that brand loyalty.

basically it boils down to

4451 = h4350
7977 = h1000
4166 = varget

Made in Canada instead of Australia

I read of of a slightly different comparison:

4451= H4350
7977= IMR7828
4166= IMR4064

Just picking knits, since H1000 is close to 7828 and Varget is close to 4064.....

But the supposed temp insensitivity moves it closer to Varget than 4064, which is what Varget and that group of powders is known for. 4064 has been called a lot of things, but temp insensitive is not one of them. IMHO.

IMR7828 is another powder that is very temperature sensitive, or at least the time I tried to workup some loads in a 300WBY it was.

Saw some 4166 today in town and it caught my attention, but didn't want to switch from Varget in my 3 rifles. I didn't even look to see what they were asking, but that place doesn't have too many deals.

Had they had 7977, it would have been a different story....

Bingo!! None of the newer powders do anything that older powders wont do. I still get awesome performance from powders that have been around for 40 or 50 years, accuracy and velocity wise.

I hope that 4451 is just like H4350, then when I get my 6.5 CM up and running I won't have to hunt down H4350...
