I feel like somebody told me "Look out there is a train coming" and all the while I should have been looking for the bus. I fell like the bus got me and buck over me to see what they hit. It is a good run down feeling though. I had to leave Friday to take my MIL to Galveston so my wife and I could have a weekend to ourselves. That was a 4 hour trip and I can tell you downtown Housotn traffic bites the nads off a donkey, to put it nicely. I get home, load all our stuff and head north for the lease. The landowner called and insisted we stop by on the way for dinner. OK smile don't ask me twice. That turned into a BS session and put us unloading and crawling into bed at the cabin around midnight to midnight plus 30. 4:00 I am up and got the coffee going, and it was RAINING its arse off. I saw a break in the weather and the four of us headed out. My Polaris Ranger the dog 4 doz deeks 2 passengers and all our stuff for a 5 mile through the ranch journey. We get there and the landowner's son says this is exactly where the birds have been hold up. There wasn't a blade of grass for 100 yards on this flat. We cut some wax leaf and built a small blind and off we go. Nothing! Nada! ZIP!!! 200 gadwalls exited stage left. Been there all week and nothing! I reckon they stayed on the roost with the horrible storms and more storms on the way.

So we go hunt arrowheads, then go to main ranch for doves. Again the landowners says you aint leaving without supper. Me my wife and brother faught tooth and nail to get away from eating but had to give in confused2 They eat late and we wind up getting home after 10PM. Up again at but t 30 in the morning for coffee and off to the mallard hole. Daylight comes and we get a wolfpack right off the bat. No wooducks, which is shocking. We clean up a few singles as they drifted in. A new guy in the gang made a spectacular shot. You know spectacular when the head folds over the back and they just stop moving completely as they fall. That was a lights out shot.

So today becomes one of those bad days that could tmpt me to pull a trigger on retirment too early. Sell everyhting and buiold me a log cabin, with cash, up on the Navosota out of Wixen Valley. One acre, a log cabin from local cedar and live a different lifestyle than this office crud. The temptation is grand, let me tell you.

So here is my brother in the duck blind as he just spotted a working pair of singles. The next one is my wifef after the hunt. She almost decided to sleep in. She was standing in the blind wide eyed as I let that wolfpack circle into feet down. It was kewl to see her face as she has never been witness to that kind of madness.

I should have never said that on here. Now I won't be able to have fun with it when I hunt with new people.

Good eye. Notice the pink Browning blanket. That belongs to my wife. She excused herself to go to the "Outhouse" during a slow time between flights. An hour later she had not returned and my brother displayed a little concern. I told him no worries, she is up on the hill hunting arrowheads before we get done here, she wanted to beat everyone to the spot.

Awesome story and nice pictures. It sounds like you got a good deal going with your land owner right now. I'm sure retirement can wait, as enticing as that sounds, even to me, who is about 30 years away from retirement.

I totally mmisunderstood your definition of thunderstorm. If you are reffering to gunfire😄 that was us.
