Okay guys, it's been a while since I've been on here regularly, so this may all be discussed somewhere else and I haven't seen it. I've hunted whitetail in east Texas most of my life, but have never really been into birds. Now, after having not hunted at all in a few years, I have been invited to go with some friends on a crane hunt in a few weeks. I know nothing. I had a friend at work tell me to get some 3" #BBB shells and change out the choke in my Mossberg 500A to full, but I'm sure that's not all I need to know. So lets go guys... what is the best advice you can give a beginner crane hunter? Many thanks!

If they may also be shooting ducks or geese do not take lead shot.
And you need a free sandhill permit endorsement from tpwd

Thik lead is hard to find.
So BB are just fine.
If you go with friends , they all shoot at pretty much the same birds, so lots of peas thrown at the same bird.

I found lead BB's, awesome.....generally speaking don't use full chokes with steel shot, I just run a modified now all the time and don't look back. Stupid government, I can use lead BB's hunting Sandhills but have to use steel in the same fields for geese, yet again can use lead in same field for doves.....go figure.....

So, the ideas I'm getting are to go with BB instead of BBB and don't worry about full choke.

I hope you got it with the first round. You can't afford to throw a lot of peas at $5 per round
