If you want to do some reading of what the Pro's use in the Precision Rifle Series and how they compare, the best bandgfor the buck is the Bushnell Elite Tactical, and used by Team GAP, I have a couple of Nightforces, but love the Bushnell for size, etc. I have the 3.5-21x50 with the Horus H59 reticle. The scope which is a First (Front) Focal Plane (FFP) can be had with the G2 reticle for about $1100, quite the steal.
Here is some good reading, they also go over a lot of other stuff. They also tests the scopes at max magnification to see how close they are. One user on this forum said the whole industry is far off (an industry wide problem) on their rated magnifications, which I beg to differ.
This is the scopes used in the PRS and data associated:http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/10/24/best-tactical-scopes-what-the-pros-use/
If you scroll down this page you can see the test for max magnification, more because long range shooters want magnification depending on their needs, but will also be worse case because of the mechanical factors involved. If I took the average of all scopes, it is 1.83% error, meaning that if you went to say 5x, a 1.83% error would put you at approximately 5x +/- .1x. Pretty impressive. http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/07/03...results-part-2/
