I started this post earlier but it was put on hold do to great news!
Our new year did not start off very well yesterday. I got up yesterday morning to let the dogs out and watched them play in the ice and went back inside to get a coke and walked back outside and they were gone. I figured they would be at the back of the property were they usually go when I'm out there. When I got there they were gone. Me and my wife starters looking and I contacted all the local ranchers to let them know and they started helping also. It has been solid ice for a couple days and in the 20's so we were a little worried. We started about 9:30 looking for them and we looked all day and could not find them. I went into town to get more fuel and to get my boys and went back home and started looking again. About 5:20 I got a txt the the dogs have been found and that they had a buck cornered so I hurried up there to where they were and ranger my blue lacy had and 8 point cornered. Ranger won't attack them but he won't leave them either. As I walked up to get ranger and the buck flipped over a died and me and the ranch hand just looked at each other and couldn't believe it. The buck had an old wound on his leg that was nasty and bleeding so ranger did what he was trained to do and went after him and my sons pup followed him. We found him about 3 miles from our place but couldn't her. We searched late into the night but nothing. We feared the worst and didn't think she would make it threw the night due to cold, bobcats and the recent sightings of lions. My boys were very upset so I would get a nap in and go out looking again. I knew there would be no way that she could have made it but would not tell my boys that.
I got up this morning and started to write this post and it was not a happy one but in the middle of me writing this I received a txt that she was found about 4 miles from our house alive about 8 this morning.
Against the odds that little pup made it threw.
She is at home now and my boys couldn't be happier.

I'm confused. You found the dogs on a buck and the buck died of a heart-attack or something? Then the female dog got lost again somehow?

Only ranger was found on the buck. They told me both of them. She was nowhere around.

I'm glad you got your pups back home. Great ending to what could have been a really sad story. Would you care to elaborate on the recent cat sightings? We all love a good cat story. Seems to have been more than usual this year.

Since we have moved out here the neighbors warned us about them and about 5 or so months ago not to far from us some horses were attacked. When I was talking to rancher about the dead buck he told his ranch hand to take the deer to a certain spot on the ranch and he said maybe it would keep the lions away from the lambs. He said he has been seeing them on the ranch lately. Said he has seen several in that area. It's not to far from our place.
