Any particular brand of tripod to look into for a chrono?

Use a $20.00 (or less) extendable camera tripod. Work great.
I was lucky and found a older professional camera tripod that has all the bells and whistle for $5 at Good Will.

I've used 2 cheap camera tripods, and they work. But if you step up to a contractor grade tripod, you won't have to worry about the light camera one's blowing over in the wind. Plus, the contractor one's hold up better and are much more sturdy.

I use two generic camera tripods spaced 4' apart for my Oehler screens. Then, that leaves plenty of room in the middle for my second chrono, a ProChrono. This way I get two velocity readings for each shot.

The spacing of the two tripods provides for plenty of stability, so the tripod quality is less important than with just one chrono support.

I use an inexpensive Velbon camera tripod for my Chrony and previously for my Oehler. I think it was $40?

I use one that I believe was made in about 1965. I guess I could upgrade to a 90s model for just about nothing.
