We've had property in Wood County for 20+ and have never seen a turkey.

Just not many birds here in Wood county. I seen a tom and a couple of hens last year running across a county road, but that's the most I've seen in the last few years. I hunt up in Red River and seen more birds last year than in past years, so maybe the population is growing.

I did see three gobblers crossing the road the other day. My wife was driving and I had her stop. I put the window down and gobbled and they came up to the side of the car. All 3 were gobbling their butts off. Coolest thing I have seen in years!

We used to see turkey all the time on our Wood Co. lease about 10 years ago. TP&W stocked them once. Odd thing is, nobody on our lease ever killed one.

Still looking for a N TX hunt. Good luck to you sir. I've spent a lot of early mornings in areas of the county that folks have told me they have seen some. I've heard a few. There may be a few huntable populations here, but few and far between. If I may ask, what is your fascination with hunting in Wood County? I ask because I too have wanted to harvest one from my own county, but, I travel all over the US hunting them also. Gman

I have hunted turkeys in several states, but never in the county I lived. I have harvested over 40 and could tell you a story about each. I just have a great feeling of satisfaction with each harvest. No to forget the taste. I use most of the turkey parts in craft projects.
