For you public boys hunting DFW. This hunting close to houses isn't the best of ideas. Yes, while you may be of legal distance from a dwelling, you also need to use a little common sense. People don't really like their houses rained down on or waken up every morning 45 before the crack of dawn to four people unloading on two teal. Eventually your lack of common sense is going to result in less and less places to hunt.

Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest? Jeez, when did this change from the migratory bird forum to the pizz and moan forum. Everyday theres a new thread with someone complaining about something. Yeah, we know- people are idiots, including waterfowlers (gasp). If you were that bent up over it, you shoulda done something more useful about it than post about it on the internet.

Sounds really inconsiderate, so how many ducks did they kill?

Take that back, theres five of them not four. Game warden knows, not sure he can legally do anything. This was more of a reminder to get people to think about other people than themselves. Shocker...

Any duck hunter that supports, defends, or takes part in this "screw everyone else" behavior...well you certainly aren't giving hunters a good image. Hell I'm tired of my neighbors bitching at me because they know I'm a duck hunter...

This season has been eye opening to how many careless people are in the sport, the increase has been exponential. After 14 seasons of duck hunting, I've grown to just be embarrassed. It's turned the way of stacks on diesel trucks and XD rims...

They were also sky blasting east of Rhome yesterday. I thought duck hunters had to have the shotguns plugged down to three rounds. These guys went for minutes at a time between reloading and going again. Not close enough to pepper us, just wondering about the plug.

It kind of goes both ways, yes they should be a little more considerate of others, but also you knew what you were signing up for when you moved that close to public hunting land. Now Idk if you were there before the spot became public or not, but if you moved in knowing you were that close, you should know what to expect. I wouldn't move somewhere that close to where I know people will be shooting and then complain about it.

Ha! So they're set up a legal distance away hunting in legal areas? I guess that the only objection anybody legitimately has is if their house gets peppered. That's unsafe and illegal definitely worth a call to the GW.

Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

Nothing new about people here. I have hunted public 40 years in the DFW area. When I started people were skybusters, over callers, late arrivers, shoot anything that flew over, early/late shooters, encrouchers, boat ramp hoggers, poachers and everything else that exist today. Same thing you deal with everyday in life. This is compounded by the fact there are more people today than yesterday. Always will be. Today is the best it will ever be. It only gets worse.

TDK and wfhunter make great points. This is just like the jackwagon dove hunters in Frisco that were legally justified in shootin x hundred yards from a school but it made no common sense and we all know how that turned out. I see Lavon and Lewisville and grapevine closed to hunting the the near future.

Give me a shell that can do damage @ 200 yards!!!! I'll buy a few cases! I kno what my shell is capable of ! And which direction to be shooting! Lack of knowledge and range could get some peeps in a predicament! I understand! But you won't be gettin a new roof anytime soon!

Hey, you'd be surprised how far that shot will carry. We get peppered enough at the range that we put in bigger roofs over the benches. They won't let us shoot back, so I guess that will have to do.

There is causing damage then there is just shot falling on private property in which you don't have permission, both of these are illegal.

This also brings up legal hunting distances. You can ask three different game wardens and get three different answers. I've heard 200ft, 300ft, and 600 ft...just awesome.

The problem is so many people cry wolf about being peppered. Unless you have proof of damage the warden can't really do much. I've had people over a mile away call and tell the sheriff and game warden I was peppering them with dove shells. I understand being mad about getting peppered, but as far as noise, if they're being legal and safe, there's nothing you can really complain about.

It's actually 600' = 200 yards I have a tank behind my house I can shoot skeet but I can't shoot 3's! Homes are just to close! I live on the lake also! And definetly hear the shooting but not peppered they would literally have to turn around and shoot away from the lake! Just 27 or so more days!

Theres also the old argument of freedom of speech. As we know that only goes so far...you can shout fire in a crowded building, but is it a good idea if there isn't a fire? Eventually something bad will happen.

Moral of story is don't shout fire unless you want to close hunting on a particular lake.

I still don't understand, especially since you say your a duck hunter, why you move close to a public hunting area and then complain about hunters.

Moral of the story.. don't move next to the garbage dump if you don't like the smell of trash.

Eric, the water conditions and added hunters are what brought the issue. If you are still stuck on that you are missing the point of the thread. You're probably still in the killing stage of duck hunting also. Believe it or not some people have different views than you. My view is that people with that frame of mind will only have a negative impact on the sport as time goes on. Only negative...zero positive.
