Until this weekend I had never killed anything with a 300 BO
Actually, my boys did, both 80-100 yard shots running the Barnes 110 load.

I hadnt had much interest due to being so impressed with the 6.8 SPC over the last 6-7 years.

I know shot placement trumps everything.

Just curious what you guys have had the best luck with?

125 Hornady SST, 125 and 150 grain Nosler BT, and 115 Berger. Used all 4 in various rifles on various critters, including deer, pigs, birds, yotes, skunks, rabbits, and raccoons. I also don't use subs for hunting.

I just didnt get the "down hard" performance i have had from other rounds with same shot placement.

One doe was shot right above the shoulder and slightly forward.
It exited but didnt take out the top of the shoulder and went right under the spine which of course would have dropped it.
The deer ran 30 yards and laid down, it started to get up and my son shot again in the neck as it lay facing away. The bullet entered and them skimmed forard.
The deer was found 45 minutes later 200 yards away and still alive.

He also shot one he says was right through the shoulder and we looked 2 hrs after dark and 1 hr the next morning.

No blood found and I heard the hit from 3 hundred yards away.
It sounded identical to the hit my other son made 20 minutes before.
