Needing some decoy tricks and tips

Have a nice spot that use to be used for rock quarry that has some ducks for the moment but my issue is I can't get more than a foot into the water before sinking to my knee in mud. Some spots I end up folding over to to my knees to stop sinking and I'm almost to the end of my waders in mud. The birds are landing on the shallow end where the water is about 2 inches deep so a decoy won't float to good. Worried about it landing wrong or upside down when throwing them out. Area is too shallow for a kayak or canoe and if it gets stuck with me in it I'm screwed. Any suggestions??

How are you retrieving dead birds? Use gang rig, and keep one end on the bank, for the few decoys that you may need in a spot that already has birds.

I use a fishing pole to get the ducks now. Half of the bank is too muddy to get close to the water due to the falling water level and that's where the ducks land.

I have a dozen old dekes ! I cut the keels off except for front hole and put a foot of line with a 1 oz barrel weight crimped to the end! I'm sure you could probably get by with less decoys than you think you need!

All 3 comments - cut keels off before. Also can roll out hardware fence 3-4 ft wide and walk out in it. Roll it back up when done

This, I hunt water all the time just a few inches deep, sometimes only 1 inch deep, cut the keels off and leave about a 1/4 inch of plastic at the front and drill a small 1/8 inch hole for decoy line.
You will be amazed at how much movement they will make with no keel.
