Just do a web search for "Ruger American Review" and you'll have dozens of reviews to read over.

I had bad luck with mine in .308, but it was just an early production manufacturing glitch. - The scope base holes were drilled improperly. I haven't heard of anyone else having that problem since. I fixed it and didn't worry about sending it back, it wasn't worth going to all that trouble.

Just sighted my bosses kids .243 American Saturday. It was a combo from Cabelas with a Redfield scope on it.
I have to say I was very impressed with it, trigger was really good and 1 inch groups were easy. This was with Hornady Lite ammo.
A 6.5 Creedmoor could be interesting in one... definitely a bargain !!!

I have one in .243 and 3006. Im very impressed with both. If the stock were better they would be a sure enough Tikka killer.

Picked one up in 7-08 just before the holidays. Ordered some Talleys for it but they sent me the wrong ones. Looking forward to finishing it up in the next couple of weeks. I am concerned that the stock seems pretty flimsy but if it won't take a bipod so be it. For $335 out the door I'm not complaining.

I haven't shot mine yet, but as light as the 7-08 is I imagine pulling the trigger on the -06 is going to let you know you've done something.

I have read a lot about the "American" being a great shooter. I hardly ever read anyone touting the accuracy of Rugers regular line. Did they do something to make this one more accurate than the 77's?

I am sure it is a great rifle in smaller calibers, but the 30-06 with the light rifle sounds rough. Maybe a Boyds stock and good recoil pad will help it? Either way, Ruger is doing something right because they are great rifles for the money.

I'd do the threaded barrel and a muzzle brake if you want to manage recoil.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Did they do something to make this one more accurate than the 77's? The m77's were not very accurate out of the box due to no bedding/ floating of the barrel and horrendous triggers. The new hawkeyes are greatly improved I own one hawkeye and one mk II and after a trigger and bed job the mkII shoots cloverleafs
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
