So. I have taken my pops down to my lease on 4 occasions this year to try to get him on an older buck i got roaming around the place. He never frequented the feeders and all the trail cam pics i have of him are few and far between but i knew he was there. My dad hasnt been hunting before this season in 18 years. He had to sacrifice his hunting pleasure to be able to support 4 kids all born within 5 years so it was tough on him. He had only shot one buck in his life cause the place he hunted with my grandparents near hondo they owned was way over hunted by the neighbors. He would go the whole season without seeing a deer. So he used it for nap time in the blind basically. So that put some pressure on me to get him on this buck. We hunt out of Live Oak county and although the deer are rutting they are doing it behind closed doors and i night as we havent seen any rut activity in person.Well Saturday evening i put my dad in the stand that has the trail that this deer likes to run to check scrapes. About 5 oclock i get a text from him telling me there is a nice young 6 point that will be good in a few years at the feeder. As i am responding back i hear the boom. I am thinking to myself well hell i guess that 6 wont live to see a few years. Then about 30 seconds later i get a text saying did you hear it that was me. I cant stop shaking. so i said what did you shoot. He tells me a good big bodied buck came out on the trail i told him to watch. So ok cool. Did it drop? Nope he ran off after the shot but i know i hit him. So i tell him ok give me about 20 minutes and ill pack up and come to you that away it will give him time to expire and we dont just keep pushing him. He says ok but i can tell he just wants to get down and go see. So i go to get him and go to where he shot and......... nothing no blood no anything that would show a hit. So i make sure we are were he was when he shot and he said yes so i look in the road for 10 minutes or so with him and nothing. SO i walk into the woods and follow the deers trail about 45 yards and there it is piled up under a tree. Perfect shot through both shoulders catching vitals. i yell out to him i found him and he came a running jumping hollering it was a great moment for me to be able to help him get his best deer to date after such a gap in hunting. Sorry for the long read just a great weekend. Heres the before from one week ago. And the after. Any help on age and score would be great with the pics you have to work with.

Great story and hunt. Awesome that you could take him hunting and he got a good one.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Post a picture of his jaw if you have one. One from above it would be best to see down onto it.

Good job putting dad on a buck. We have taken bucks in excess of 200 pounds in southern live oak county.

Yeah he is cool. We had a rough year for him. He started having chest pains in the beginning of the year and he just said ah its heartburn. I kept on him about it and finally in April he went for an angiogram and they admitted him to the hospital the same morning and did quadruple bypass surgery on him and the drs were telling him what a fool he was cause they honestly couldn't believe he was still alive. He had 2 arteries that were roughly 80-85 % blocked and the other 2 were about 45% blocked. SO it took him a bit to recover from that. So i figured i have gotten to hunt now for the past 20 years or so and never got to hunt with him and i know he loved it but just had to make sacrifices for the betterment of the family. So i wanted to get him back in it and now he is hooked again.
