Went to a ranch just outside Waco this week its been hunted with dogs and trapped for a while but none to very little night vision hunting. Needless to say the hogs were in for a surprise! The video below is the first group we encountered they were eating at a hog trap every night but only up to the gate and not going in. One of the ranch hands was actually watching on the cameras when we hit them he saw the hogs dropping but had no idea what was going on lol. We had three shooters two 6.8's running 120sst's and one 5.56 running 60 gr vmax's all topped with two apollo clip on's and one zeus thermal. As you will see in the video one hog alerts on us and moves off to the left but his friends pay him no mind and continue eating the golden kernels of death! These were all big hogs the smallest was 220 pounds they are hitting the corn silage piles and cattle feeders. The largest hog was by my estimate 300+ pounds and took a hit to the rear leg spinning him around. Even though it was not a vital shot you will see the 120sst and 6.8 was enough to knock him down with a leg shot. Dont forget to watch in 1080p hd Here he is. ![[Linked Image]](http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab268/lonestarboar/IMG_4282_zps2f458469.jpg) Another boar 180ish pounds taken later. ![[Linked Image]](http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab268/lonestarboar/IMG_0727copy_zps2c1d568a.jpg)

Nice hogs and gear! Always enjoy your vids. I've had on and off results with the 6.8 sst's, sometimes I anchor them, sometimes they run off. I use thermal as well.

Hogs are tough Ive had them run off from much larger calibers with good shot placement. I like the 6.8 and SST combo no recoil for quick follow up shots and still has knockdown power. That big one was spun arround and knocked over by a rear leg shot!

Great video.. Those were some big hogs! Have you ever used Barnes TTXS bullets? I use them in .270 and .308 and often take two with one shot if I can line them up.

Yes I have used them they do not anchor the running hogs like the 120sst does, if you gut shot they just zip right through. Plus I hunt cattle ranches I dont want something thats going to keep going and hit a cow!

Texaslawman, have you tried the Winchester Razorback ammo? I bought a case of them in .308 to try. Seems they are a cross between FMJ and Barnes. I want to shoot a 300lb boar in the slates and see if it drops him. I have killed a few big hogs with barnes and btsp's lodged in their plates and never phased them. .243 to the neck drops them every time. Wanting a bullet that I can do a follow up shot and drop one. Can't count how many hogs I have shot in the slates with regular ammo and never found (I usually hunt next to or in the deep woods).

This guy was dead his lungs and heart were trashed you can see the blood and chunks of lungs coming out he just had strong will! Yes the razorback ammo is a monolithic bullet, so is the new hornady GMX Im going to try those out!

It would be cool to see the effects of heart/lung shots with Barnes, SST, Razor Back and Partion. Like I said before, I have killed big boars that have been previously shot with various bullets and they didn't make it past the protection plate. I don't know if it was due to bad reloads, distance or bullet. I do know that a buddy has shot a couple of big pigs on my place with 30-06 150 grain Core Lokts and the pigs ran over 50 yards on each occasion before expiring. And this was at 30 to 50 yard shots straight through the slates. Those big pigs are tough if not hit in the head/neck.

Hogs are just tough they can run a long ways dead. Ive used the barns but prefer the SST's Seem to transfer more energy.

Yep, I've seen them run 200 yards on 3 legs while dragging their innards THRU a mesquite patch. 6.8 in ARP Barrels with handloaded 120SSTs pushed by AA2200 has been my goto round for a while now. Finished off 2014 with 72 pigs, all but 3 were shot with 6.8 - two were shot with 458 Socom and one was a luck shot with a 1911.

The SST loose their pedals and disperse in the animal created havoc. The Barnes stay together, thus it wouldn't seem they would do as much damage. This is why I would like to see the difference between them all. Copper fouling is why I don't use copper bullets....I have seen it ruin barrels.

I've seen u put down pigs on your videos probably into the hundreds with the 6.8 SSTs. None of them have taken that many hits to the neck/shoulder/chest and tried to keep going like that. Probably not even half that many hits to the vitals. That was a legit zombie beast! It almost seemed like u were shooting a .223!
Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

As always, great video! That hog was a beast! I haven't jumped on the 6.8 round YET, but I've been seriously thinking about it.
I've used the SST round in the past with various calibers and they always cause BIG damage!! I wonder how the newer TIPPED BARNES bullet would do? Supposed to have more rapid expansion than the regular barnes.
