Picked up a blueprinted and rebarreled Rem 700 with a 1 piece PTG bolt.
Krieger 25" fluted #5 barrel
Just slapped the timney flat trigger in it.
Trying to decide what stock will fit my needs best.
Choices:
Gamescout
Laminate
Hs Prec.

Optics will be Nightforce SHV 5-20 with NF base and rings

I have almost the exact rifle, complete with the 25" Krieger, blueprinted M700, big recoil lug and bolt handle. My trigger is a Jewell, however. It is chambered for the .300 WM.

My outfit has an HS Precision handle.

Please don't!

Or if you must have one, consider one that is easily removable.

I agree on a 7mm, but why are you against brakes?

I am not a huge fan of brakes. Brakes are annoying for everyone but the shooter.

The noise, of course, and the uncaring, rude behavior of shooters that use them at the range (just as the guy with the AR or SKS that's flinging hot brass up and down the shooting line).

My main dislike of brakes, however, is that they're as ugly as an oozing wart on a witch's nose. I've always admired blued steel and walnut on a hunting rifle. Graceful lines and tasteful understatement carry great weight with me. Even the most ardent user of muzzle brakes won't call them attractive. The same can be said for the guys who jump through hoops to get a noise suppressor.

It took me decades to warm to the idea of stainless/synthetic rifles, but I've come to accept the perfect practicality (in Alaska or Cameroon, for example) of such a hunting outfit. But I'm certain that I will not live long enough to come around to appreciating the supposed beauty of brakes and suppressors, although I can tolerate--barely--that others may disagree.

The right brake on a rifle does wonders for perceived recoil and consequently how accurately you shoot. Depending on how recoil sensitive you are, you'll generally shoot more with a rifle you are comfortable shooting.

It's your rifle, set it up how it's best for you.

Well I came across a decent deal on a thumbhole Mcmillian on Snipershide. I have had a few thumbhole stocked guns and always liked them so I am going to try it out and see if I like it on this gun. Now to figure out what color to go on the metal.
