Ive been shooting an M4 for the last 6 yrs or so, I come here and start looking at AR's and I feel like I don't know a thing about them with all the different options. How nice of an AR could I have built for 1K or less? Im not really worried about brand as much as just good quality product. If you build ARs let me know what you can do for 1K or less.

Check out Primary Arms. They were having some great deals on Spikes Tactical and Daniel Defense(Coupon for $400 xpired). Both great Ar's for about that range. Even Palmetto State Armory can be had with a CHF barrel for that price range.

If it were me I would search the ar sites for parts for sale and put it together myself.

I built an AR a few months back, I wanted to see how CHEAP I could build one. Bought psa upper and lower both blemished, (yet to find a blem on either) did the whole thing for 515.00. It is just a basoc flat top, bit I think for the price you mentioned you can buid an awesome one.

They make some great products. I built a BCM from parts for a friend and he said thats the only AR he will never sell. Loves how it runs.

I built my AR for a about 1100 back during the panic and it is lights out.
It's a 6.8 with a 16in ARP barrel with a target crown. Samson fore grip, PSA lower, Red X upper then all the odds and ends BCG, gas tube and what not a buddy of mine supplied. I would think now you could probably build the same rifle for about $900.
It's super comfortable to shoot and very accurate has good knock down power. It's the only thing I've used for deer hunting the last 2 years. I've only shot it out to 200yds but I know it is capable far beyond my reach.

A very good one.

on the stag I spent about 650 and on the others about 550 and have 2 pairs of rifles with consecutive numbers
I did not go with a rail on any of them, never had a need for a rail. I did put a pieice of rail on my first and my colt for a flashlight, that and my laser in the army only thing I feel need to mount, I did try a vert grip, don't like it ill just stick with magwell.

I spent from 97-05 in army infantry

Well I just bought a blemished Afghanistan stripped lower from PSA along with an MOE lower parts kit. The upper I wanted was out of stock so once I get the lower assembled ill start looking for an upper. Got the stripped lower and parts kit for 150 and buffer tube assembly for 20.
