This is one of those posts that may well piss a few off, and others may see it right on My neighbor has his CHL and carries most/all the time. I have known this fella for many a yr as we are from the same home town. Just so happens he buys a house right next door to us about 6 yrs ago. Aprox. 16 yrs ago he was busted on a ring of stealing autos, boats, RVs etc and shipping them to the metroplex. The whole ring of them were taken into custody. He opted to squeal to save himself the jail time and ratted out the others. That's one strike. Two yrs after that he gets rolled on a coke ring here in west Texas. Again he plays the cards and rats out the leaders etc in lieu of Federal time. Strike two. The last few yrs (5-6) he has been on a deer lease in Colorado City. He and his cohorts get bored and slay the crap out of the migratory birds (crane, ducks etc) All with AR-15's etc. yes I call the GW. With that though and understandably no PC etc. it is just my word of mouth so nothing can be done. He is a PERFECT example of why SOME not all CHL holders should not posses a firearm. No convictions......................carry on.

Agree. I occasionally work at a range; I see CHL holders who should never own a firearm every week.

I think there were 14 in my class, and more than half had no business owning let alone carrying a firearm. Very scary-wish thy would make it more demanding to obtain.

I know this sounds harsh, but couldnt/wouldn't hurt for his gun to discharge in his waistband. Like throwing a skimmer in the gene pool!

Those types would carry either way, shouldn't have a CHL, but that's the way it goes.

Understand and agree. Probably just stay out of the way and his past, and present lifestyle should take care of him eventually. Bet he looks over his shoulder a lot.

Read my post on this section on the "Open Carry" subject. I'm right there with you on wishing for more stringent requirements on who can carry. I'm a gun enthusiast (not quite a certified gun nut, but I enjoy hunting and an occasional round at the range) and consider myself quite conservative. But in the interest of public safety I wish there was a way to require training and education, not to mention screening out nut-cases like the guy referenced by the OP. There was a lady in my CHL class who could not safely operate her pistol. If she's carrying a gun now, she's a danger to everyone around her, and she's actually at more risk of injury now (she'll shoot herself.....) than before she started carrying. It's a public safety issue. We require training and licensing for just about everything from cars to lawn sprinkler systems. Why are we so averse to requiring training before allowing the carrying of guns in public?
So she says "sure Honey, I agree, you DO need a new deer rifle..." And that, boys, is how I ended up with new living room furniture!

Every day I have to get through a 4-way stop by my house and 1/2 the people don't have a clue how to proceed.

Oh, I guess you didn't get the memo, did you? It's all decided via hand signals now. Seriously...I figure about 50% of those on the road are truly too stupid to drive at all.

Lord forbid they install a round about in your neighborhood. It seems it turns all of the richy riches in Southlake into Mario Andretti in the mornings. Stick the front of your truck in the intersection and they hit the throttle when they see you coming. I intentionally pull out in front of them to slow them down. I have never seen more inconsiderate people. The sign says yield. Not stomp on the gas and try to beat everyone through the intersection. It is supposed to keep a better flow of traffic but instead it is a death march to try and get in there.

It's not a perfect system but neither is letting the local yocal sheriff decide who gets and who doesn't. Isn't the old saying for our legal system "it's better to let 10 guilty men go free than hang 1 innocent man"?
