lightening jack for west texas..

I usually put a mojo critter decoy, 40-50 yards, out in front of my setup for the dog to focus on then sway the call back and forth to imitate a rabbit being slung back and forth.

Lightening Jack
Distress cottontail
Ranting redbird

And a list of others have all worked at one time or another. Heck try em all! But I agree that a visual decoy significantly helps. Coyotes are sight hunters so I want to give them something to look at instead of looking at me. The decoy has almost been tackled by a charging bobcat one night.

I had a coon pounce on my call like a house cat one night using raccoon fight. That thing couldn't have seen what he was running at but it didn't stop him from getting in the fight. I was laughing so hard I couldn't hit it....he rolled the call good.

All of the FoxPro sounds work, concentrate more on your approach and playing the wind, the Coyotes aren't particular as one might think about which distress sound is playing....

Ive been sitting in a tripod when something got a hold of a rabbit near me. He didn't squeal quietly then increase his volume. He about scared me out of the tripod it was so loud. I also call fairly loud from the beginning, I think it gets their attention a little better just as it did mine. I also don't alter volume as long as the animal is coming. I keep everything the same until he stops or starts acting like he knows what is going on then its time to shoot anyway.

I tried out my FoxPro this morning. After rexmitchell's statement about coons I tried the coon fight call. Boy, with in 4 minutes I had 3 running towards the caller. I was able to kill 2 one must have been the leader as he was mad didn't like what he was hearing. Can't wait to get out again.
