Well I just found out that this hunt is not all it is cracked up to be, 1. The sate park WILL NOT be closed during the hunt!!!! WHAT? They have to be kidding? How can you run a GUN deer hunt in a state park with it being full of campers and hikers and bike riders? 2. No cabins available for rent & camp grounds are already 90% full! Ok I don't think I want to camp with a bunch of kids running around and me dressed in full camo and a dead deer on my tailgate! Imagine the dirty looks you would get! 3. No blinds provided and no deer feeders, this is basically a draw your spot throw up a ground blind and HOPE something walks by! Every other TPWD state park hunt I have been drawn for has feeders & blinds set up so they know you will see & harvest as many deer as possible. This is the first year for this hunt and they are making some VERY DANGEROUS decisions by allowing the park to be open. The lady on the phone says "well we have 6000 acres and the hunt will take place on only A very small park of the park? Really? So your gonna cram 10 guys with high powered rifles into a small area and hope we don't shoot somebody? IM OUT GUYS! This hunt would wind up costing me over $500 in hotel, meals, gas and tolls! TOTALLY NOT WORTH MY TIME, I can drive 45 minutes west of FTW and kill two does for $300 bucks! I am calling next Monday to release my spot.......

eek2 How did you get hold of her, I have been trying to call for two weeks to get some info on this hunt and have yet to have the phone picked up. I've called the park headquarters and no one seems to know any of the details about the hunt there and they continue to forward me to the park manager who is MIA. The park should definitely be closed to the public with rifle hunting going on, that is very poorly planned and quite frankly dangerous to not have it closed. Some of these state park hunt I've been on its obvious not all the employees are "on-board" hunters taking out some of "their" deer, I have a hunch bastrop might have this same vibe, hope I'm wrong.

Another hunter that is going with me called a few times and finally got ahold of her. Took a while.

Here's some of what she told him.

We will draw hunting spots out of a hat.
Hunting spots are from 150 to 300 acres.
There are a lot of deer.
We will only hunt part of the place.
Some hunting spots have lanes to see far and some don't.
Some are a lot of trees and some are not a lot.

I don't remember the rest.

Yes all that is true! But the trees that are there were in the fires! I was told the 1000 acre section of the park we are hunting in was the most severely damage area of the park! Again my biggest concern is that the park is not closed! Too many idiots that could wander into your area! Remember this park is over crowded every single weekend when there is good WX! So be that as it may it is too much money out of pocket for what will probably be a hunt filled with headaches!
