Around Dec 2nd I started a thread titled "my 1st deer hunt-help." Well it happened on Saturday the 20th. I got to his land around 3:00. We walked down to the blind at 3:30. I shot my first deer ever at 5:10. There were deer running all around. We did see 7or 8 6/8 point bucks, but as I wrote in earlier post, I was allowed to shoot only a doe. Anyway she came in, then left, and came back. I could make this a long story, but I put the 270 round right behind right shoulder at 90 yards away. She dropped instantly. He showed me how to field dress it, skin it, quarter it, then we took to processor. I'm so grateful for the whole experience. He even recorded it. I must've watched it 30 times. I brought him some Jack D and some bags of deer corn for the invite and he was appreciative. I'll spare the photos of us gutting and skinning the doe. Thanks to all who gave me advice in original post-much appreciated, oh and yes I got invited back next year.

Thanks to all. I've been playing this in my mind for months. The invite was unexpected. A family friend 30 mts from my house. I really have my wife to thank. She casually mentioned I wanted to go hunting, and 2 days later my phone rings. Been going to the range practicing. When he gave me the ok, I took the safety off, deep breath, boom. Then I got the buck fever shakes. Awesome feeling- hooked for life.

Congrats!!! You did take a bite of her heart, right? Tradition is to take a bite of the still warm heart, on your first animal.  Its a remembrance of the Native American hunting traditions. Or am I the only one to believe that?
