I am building a creedmore and cant decide on barrel length. Thinking 24. Mainly used for long range shooting and hunting out of a stand.

I like shorter barrels for stand hunting 16-19".
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

24" should make a 140 gr. go 2800 fps.
Generally you lose 20 fps per inch you chop off. You decide from there.

Nothing over 24 and personally I'd be in the 20-22 range.

It's a simple answer, but only you can answer. Longer barrels will have more speed, with increased weight and more cumbersome. Shorter barrels are handier, more compact, and less weight. For the 6.5CM, you will gain lose about 15-20 fps per inch. When it comes down to it, the longer barrel won't help you if the shooter can not shoot anyway. I run a 23" on my 6.5x47 with a 140 VLD at 2742 fps. I feel no disadvantage with the slightly slower speeds.

If it was primarily hunting with range for fun, I would go 18ish range. If it's the other way around I would go 22-24

I run a 22" on my AR Creedmoor. It is pushing a 140 grain AMAX at 2620fps. I use a can as well, so add on another 9". Now you have a long $&@ gun

Mine is 26" and if I had it to do over I'd have it cut to 24...
