I know its getting late in the season and I'm trying to keep my Blue Lacy busy and help out fellow hunters so thought I'd share. Jasper is in his second season and just finished his 11th recovery this year. We are located in Stonewall county but will travel 3+ hours for fuel. He's trained both on and off leash so it's hunter/landowners preference. Trained on exotics as well. He will bay wounded game if commanded. Give us a call we'd be happy to help!

Blake - Thanks for coming out Sunday. Great meeting you.

Guys - If you have a wounded deer and have never used a dog, you owe it to the deer to make every effort.

Good info and service.
Do you mind posting some information on how long you have to find to start the search? For example, if I arrow a deer one evening at last light, can I call you the next morning for help? Do I need to have blood on the ground for the dog to find the deer? Any basic info would help.

I can't speak for everyone, but in most cases I don't mind a trail that has set overnight but I will very seldom go through the trouble of bringing my dog if no blood has been found especially in a high deer density area. makes it real tough on the dog.

The fresher the track or trail the better. I would recommend that if you get into the situation that you determine the need of a dogs assistance for recovery, such as a deer arrowed at last light with sign, to go ahead and give the dog service a call that night. If it is determined more time is needed to allow the animal to expire or other circumstances arise, trails older than 24 hrs may still be recoverable. Unless the animal drops within sight, go into every recovery effort as if tracking is going to be neccessary. Note the animals position to you at time of the shot as well as its behavior after the shot, did it jump, lunge forward, duck low, head up down, limping, dragging etc.. Mark the hit sight, and gather as much info about the shot as possible, blood, blood color, fluids hair, hair color, tissue, meat, tracks and marks. My dog and many others are trained not only to be able to blood trail, but even with minimal sign are able to track individual wounded animals. Density of game, weather, and time are limiting factors.
