So instead of hunting after X-mas the wife suggested making a road trip to Big Bend National park. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The basin there is very scenic. My family loves every inch of the park.

Driving the truck from Austin. Actually staying at La Jitas Resort I think, wife making all the plans. I read that ( if I owned any) you can bring a gun into the park you just can't use it. Anyone know that?

Check out the painting above the bar at the Lajitas resort. Spectacular.

We love Lajitas. Have been 3 times this year. Stayed in the RV Resort. Drive the river road up toward Presidio. After you get to the "Hoodoos" it gets boring. Turn around. But do drive that road!!! (FM-170)

Had a great time, thanks for all the tips. Lajitas was really nice and had a great Chicken fried steak. You guys would love this, got gas at Fort Stockton on the way back east. At the pump next to us was this little Mercedes with CA plates. I see this nasty fake blonde with a typical CA knucklehead get in as we are pulling out. A mile down the road they fly by me doing 100 MPH, I say thank you and set the cruise control at 95. Three hours later, we drive by the blue lights with none other but that little Mercedes on the side. The Wife and I laughed for a few miles.
