you see them feeding on the side of the road during the drive home after seeing nothing all day.

Deer are naturally nocturnal. It's the pressure that causes them to avoid those man-made feeding areas they were hitting back in October and November, for the ones that make them comfortable doing so at night.
Of course this is also the time of year when our game cameras tell us what's now hitting our food plots and feeders only at night.

Eating beside the road is because it is the only place green to eat or what they prefer to eat that is growing there in my area.

Deer eating on the side of the road is almost a guarantee right after we get a rain. Especially around here where there is lots of feed trucks traveling throughout the county. Feed spills off of that and you can always see something different growing in the ditch that is not in the common pastures of our area. Since the last three inch rain, there has been several deer spotted on the ten mile trip to town.

Saturday morning saw nothing. Left my stuff at blind and took a long walk back to truck. Drive up to blind to retrieve my stuff. You can't see the feeder when you drive up to elevated blind. I take my computer down to the feeder to check the camera. There were deer on camera 3 minutes before I walked up to it at 10 am... They are educated. Checked other cams and half had deer on them after 10 am...
