Thanks guys. It was so awesome shooting my first band at home and having my puppy retrieve it. He was banded in Montana in August of this year.

Very nice. Love every bit of it. The classic, functional gun. The dog. The great gray duck. Everything. Nice job.

What's the choke? I have an old hand-me-down model 12. It is a full choke, I was told I could not shoot steel out of it.

Mine has a poly choke on it but I think most if not all came from the factory with a full.

That's pretty neat. Definitely one for the memory books.

RLUM are you shooting steel or one of the other types of shot? I have 2 model 12s and an A5 that I would love to use on ducks but worried about how steel would do in them. The model 12's were my favorite on ducks back when we could shoot lead.

I am shooting federal blue box steel #4's and I am loving the combo.

Before shooting steel out of an old A-5 or Model 12, be sure it can handle both the shot and the pressure of modern cartridges. In many cases they cannot. We have one of each and they were made in the 1950s. Our guns are not made to shoot steel and therefore we won't.

Yes, you "can" shoot steel through any old firearm technically, but be advised you are running a big risk of ruining the barrel by pitting it or chewing up the forcing cone of a historic firearm, so I would advise against it.
