I have been reading for year how great Danner Pronghorn boots are....I have Christmas money to spend........ my Rocky boots are about worn out SOOOOOOOOOOOO, my question is, before I buy the Danner boots, for Texas hunting should I buy the 400g Thinsulate or the 800g. Since I mostly blind hunt I'm thinking the 400g. Those of you that own these boots, what do you suggest.

It depends on what your other uses are. If you're just going to use them sitting in a blind to deer hunt in the winter I'd go with the better insulation. If you plan to dove hunt also or you might be using them in warmer weather I'd go with the 400g. My feet tend to get cold just sitting still in temps <40 degrees but are OK when walking.

I have other boots I use in warmer weather. The Danners will be strictly for winter cold weather hunting.

I bought some 400-gram Danner Pronghorns this year. They seem well-made and are very comfortable for cooler weather, but my feet will get cold in an elevated stand when the temp is below 30 degrees. For strictly cold weather stand hunting, not walking, I'd go with the 800's.

I have the non insulated version. I have had them for 7 years and they are great and waterproof. I use them in all weather with good socks. I just got back from South Dakota upland hunting with them in 7° weather in snow. My feet were warm and dry.

If I was just sitting, I would go with the warmer ones.

I wear these...even to work sometimes...

I am in the minority on this but my Pronghorns are the most uncomfortable pair of boots I've ever put on my feet. I think it's just my feet though. I wore them in Kansas in single digit temps in a chain on stand bowhunting and my feet stayed warm though. The walk back to the truck was horrible.

Non insulated for me, I can wear different socks to take care of the cold.

I have the 400 insulate. Pretty much only use them when hunting Colorado in September. I like them but I don't have much to compare them to either.

I have the 400's I have to be careful on my walk to the blind cause they make my feet sweat when I'm walking then after I sit for a while I will get cold. I have taken them to New Mexico on and elk hunt and never got cold either.

I have 400's and got them a bit larger than normal size boots so I can wear thicker socks or 2 pair of normal socks.

I have the 800's and they do a good job sitting in a stand with no heater down to about 30° but if it gets down in the teens to mid 20's my feet still get cold if I don't have a heater going. That being said, I've always had issues with cold feet while sitting in a stand. If I'm walking like quail hunting or something the're fine.
I think my Danners are some of the most comfortable hunting boots that I've ever owned.

Well I went to Cabela's this morning and bought my Pronghorns. Hope they do as well as y'all say they should.

I have the 400s. Wore them last year elk hunting in Colorado. Spent a lot of time hiking in snow and my feet never got cold....wearing wool socks. Best boots I've ever owned!

Just before xmas I bought the 400g. Wore them for sitting in the blind in teens to 20 deg weather. Then wore them on a trip to Colorado where it got to -15. Feet never got cold but I was walking a lot. Very comfortable boots. My redheads are comparable in comfort and warmth. Can go wrong with either.

I would think cactus would be a problem if it is thick where you hunt.
