Looking for a way to use some venison trimmings anyone ever made dog treats or food with em?

Never made any treats with the trimmings but usually cut out and save the wind pipe and the femur for my dogs. Depending on the size of the deer I may cut the femur in half. That being said you could always make some jerky for them with whatever scraps you have left.

I feed my dogs raw trimmings and the bones as is. Have never processed them. No it's not bad for them.

Wasn't sure about the bugs, that's my original reason for wanting to process em down, but now that I know I think I'll chunk some up raw and freeze them kinda like popscicles for dogs

Kinda what I was thinking, jerky strips a’la beggin strips. Do you leave the wind pipe raw or cook it?

same here ... had a veterinarian tell me years ago that venison was safe for dogs raw.

I usually give the wind pipe to them raw. My GSD isn't too fond of them but my Catahoula bulldog loves them! As far as freezing the meat or scraps, I too do that with a lot of high reward treats.

After grinding my ground round and sausage trimmings, I grind the rest for my dogs. I put into 5lb bags and cook a bag at a time. 5lbs usually lasts about 2 weeks for my Lab and Weim. I am probably the pickiest person you have ever seen clean a deer. I get about 10lbs of steaks/stew meat/round, 10lbs of sausage grind and 15lbs of dog grind out of a mature doe (130lb on the hoof).

My dogs absolutely love deer meat. I do the same with wild hog and about everything else I harvest.

@Kevin_M

yeah my two froo froo dogs might turn their nose up at the wind pipe at least until my collie gets a piece, then I"m sure they'll go for it, funny how peer pressure works on dogs and people lol

I've actually wanted to experiment with homemade dog food for a while the stuff the Vet prescribed is pretty ridiculously priced and it's got a lot of salt in it. I think mixing some ground venisonn with green beans or rice would be a good substitute for my pups. Thanks for all the feedback!
