Could anyone recommend a hog hunt? Ideally I would like to hunt on a place that specializes in hogs. I would like to get myself and the kids a really good opportunity on a wild pig in the late spring or early summer of 2015. Prefer low fence to high fence, but a big high fence place is OK too if it is big enough. Semi-guided would be my preference. Prefer a place where we could use a gun or bow.

What I'm trying to avoid are the helicopter, infrared scope, catch with dogs, etc. high pressure hunt scenarios. A relaxed evening over a feeder with lights is fine but prefer spot and stalk.

Does something like this exist? I could bring my own camping gear and food but am OK with that being provided as well for reasonable costs. I'm not expecting a free open bar or the Ritz Carlton, just a clean place that runs an ethical operation where I could bring my family. Something similar to Shiloh in OK?

I have no interest in exotics or deer for now, just hogs so a place that does that very well is my top priority.

Please post here so others can pick up suggestions as well but if you prefer to send me a PM go for it! Thanks!

I am in Eastland Co

you can sit in blind over feeders

but without night vision or thermal you're at a disadvantage as the hogs on my place are mostly nocturnal

My group loved 4 Pines Ranch in Groesbeck, TX. he has close to 400 acres free range, and another 70 acres fenced so you have the option to hunt both. We chose the free range and 6 out of the 7 hunters had shot opportunities. We came back with 3 total. The hunting camp is nice. It's rustic but does has a bathroom and shower, along with a fire pit and grill. He does not allow stalking unless he is with you, so you could always ask for that but my group hunted out of his blinds which were really nice. We are going back this spring and it's a 14 hour drive one way for us, that's how much we loved it. We hunted the evening (around 5pm) until first light.

JHOG, thanks for your review! My drive time will be similar depending on how far east I go. This makes a large impact on our decision because we won't get another go at this for quite a while. I need lots of input to be sure this trip is the best it can be. Having the kids along puts added pressure since you only get so many chances to make a good impression with them.

Great suggestions so far guys, keep it coming!

Tried to contact you via PM for more details but your inbox is full. Could you send me some info on your operation or post it here or maybe another way to contact you? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I replied to your post in the outfitter section but will mention it here too..

HUNTERS CREEK RANCH in Mt Vernon Tx. Has exactly what you are looking for. Nice relaxing sit near feeders. Bob has about 10-12 stands/feeders located around the prime Texas hog terrain. Find one that the wind is just right and wait!!
I've been hunting here for 3yrs now and am heading back again in Feb. Our group goes for 2-3 days each time. Love this place, I've hunted other ranches in Oklahoma and Texas and this place rates at the top.

Best of all is the price...$275/day gets you 2 hogs a day plus 3 meals and lodging!

Check them out on their website.

I second: www.hunterscreekranchtx.com.
Been there twice (and it is a 1200 mile round trip!). Bob and his wife are GREAT hosts. Only had one person guide me, but Shannon was FABULOUS. Can't go wrong with this ranch.

A group of friends and I went to the shiny top ranch last year. The web site is shinytopranch.com Its rustic but had a shower and a bunk house with a fire pit. we saw a lot of hogs. We shot 15 in 3 days. had a great time. some of the guys are going back next week. Wish I could go with them.

we will be doing hog hunts on 1,000 acres here at pintail, still getting the details fine tuned but will know within a week or so what rates will be, all inclusive/food/lodging/hunt in a blind or stalk. we also have tree stands for bow or rifle (you supply your own harness) in some prime woods on the property.
