Maybe looking at a hunt near Gerald, MO in Franklin county. Anyone ever hunted in that area? What size deer can be expected? Any help would be appreciated

I hunt north eastern Missouri close to the Iowa line. It my expierence and I have been told by people that live there you really go to getting in the bigger deer after you cross the Missouri river which is just north of there. The farther north in Missouri you go the better. In not saying there aren't good bucks there in that area but I wouldn't expect anything outrageous.

I hunt in Hickory County. Crosstimbers to be exact. Bout 65miles N of springfield. Its a family friend ranch/farm, they run a intensive grazing program and hate deer so I have the run of the place. Its 2000ac but I hold up in a block of 40ac that he never touches cuz its so steep and has deep coolies and cuts. The ridges are beautiful and full of hard timber. I absolutely love MO and if I could make a living there I would buy some land in that county. BTW- The ranch backs up to the lucas oil family farm which is huge. Lots of pressure on opening days, I hear gun shots everywhere. A lot of locals do deer drives or pushes. That normally puts the deer hiding and scatters them out good. Ive been able to harvest several doe and shot a 8pt (120class) on my last day in 2010 and the neighbor found a 8pt dead several days after so he saved the horns for me. I bleached them in 2011 and hung them up up

If you know someone in the area they are welcome but if your an outsider not so much. I really like the area and the way they live. Its a country boy life out there and most families are Mennonites. zoro

Used to hunt in Gasconade County (directly west of Franklin) until my FIL moved to the Veterans Home. Lots of wooded areas. Deer for the most part had larger bodies with small antlers. Not saying there are not good antlers in the area. I know that Franklin County was one of the top producers for the last several years (numbers wise).

Here is a link to county by county harvest numbers for the last several years : http://mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/hunting-outlooks-and-reports/deer-reports/deer-harvest-summaries

I could be wrong as I am sure all areas vary just like texas but I am pretty sure you will not see the numbers like the hill country.

I hunt in Monroe City, Missouri every year. There are big deer up there. This year someone about 10 miles from where I hunt shot a deer that scored 172 I believe. I see nice 130 deer on a regular basis. I saw an average of about 30 deer every hunt from the stand. Its a lot of fun!

My wife and I plus a life long buddy hunted the NW corner for the first time in Nov. this year. We plan on going back in 2015. Out of the 3 of us 2 got big bodied bucks, my buddy killed a 200 lb 8 pt and the wife killed a 250 lb 10 pt, so you can figure out who didn't kill anything.
