This would make a dandy Christmas gift for someone.
This is the Remington 700 Classic for Y2K. I have fired approximately 600 rounds through this rifle.
The rifle was produced with the J-Lock bolt. I replaced the J-Lock firing pin assembly with a Gre-Tan assembly from Brownell's. I have also replaced the original trigger with an X-Mark Pro Adjustable trigger. The trigger is very good and I'd estimate that it breaks at 3 to 3-1/2 pounds. I did retain the original firing pin assembly and trigger assembly and will include them with the rifle, or I will reinstall the original parts if desired. I have the box I received the rifle in, but I have discovered that the serial number on the box is a mismatch...the fourth of the eight digits is incorrect on the box. I have to wonder how that could ever have happened, but it has been about twelve years since I purchased it and that's just the way it goes.
The rifle is equipped with one-inch matte-finish Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts and rings. I believe the rings are LOW height. I had a 40mm AO scope mounted on the rifle, and the clearance was fine. The rings are lapped and have not been moved. Scope NOT included.
I'd say the overall condition of the rifle is very good to excellent. There are a few small sings in the stock. The metal is excellent.
I'm looking to sell for $675. I need the cash more than anything else, but I'll consider trades. I'm willing to ship, you just pay the freight. FTF possible in the north Fort Worth area.
I'll try and get some better photos up ASAP. PM if interested.
