info is hard ta get. have U gotten the $48.00 permit yet. they used ta send a book with all the places & info on each. hard times here. got one just down the road. good deer & hog hunting. not much help, i got cheap posts. best wishes

Axis308.....there really isn't any public hunting close to Ft Hood. Granger down near Austin I believe is the closest if I'm not badly mistaken. Ft Hood is worth the money if you do your homework. Just don't set out anything you don't want stolen. I suggest Hand feeding corn and making blinds out of natural brush. Also, don't walk directly to your stand, take a round about way so you don't beat down a path to your honey hole. this has always helped me be successful. I don't kill alot of deer because I'm picky, but I have quite a few coming in.
