The coons at our place are relentless at destroying our feeders. They pull out the solar panel wires, hang off the varmint basket, break the varmint basket, empty out the feeders and make my game camera take 2000 pictures a week watching these critters eat all night every night. I came across this product and thought I would try it. I have removed the varmint basket and the coons no longer visit my feeder. How do you control your coons?

I tried that last year and it gave them more traction. Didn't work.

I used full length strips on top and bottom of the leg. All my coons are gone. When i first installed them in september I went back a week later and found some blood and hair on 1 of the poles. Since then I am coon free. No more varmint guard and my feeder motor really spreads the corn now.

I don't use varmint cages. Most of the feeder motor/timers I use are all self contained with nothing hanging out they can destroy. I also use the eliminator spin plates on my 12 volt feeder motors. At the first sign of a corn bandit, I put carpet tack strips of the feeder legs that use the same theory as what you put on yours. Some of them can still maneuver up them though. I also put out the Dukes dog proof traps at first sign. Someone on here suggested mini marshmallows as bait and it has worked great. I usually get the thief in a day or two of setting up the Dukes. Lead poisoning then finishes them off.

We built our own varmint cages, same diameter at the barrel using 1x2 welded fence wire. With the large openings we so no difference in the way the corn is slung. You can get the wire and the clips at any good feed store.

Eliminator plates We went to crank-ups, the coon cannot get to the feeder. The biggest thing, is: KILL THEM ALL DP foot traps and cage traps everywhere. You have got to get rid of as many of them as you can.

I have a varmint cage on our feeder but there is one dang fox squirrel that gets in there and spins the feed out by "hand" I only bowhunt this area but every time I draw back on him he runs off!! lol I'm determined to shoot him before the season runs out though! Last time I was out there though there was a small hawk that came and staked out the feeder not far from "my" tree. This poor hawk swooped at the squirrel 4 times and missed! By the 4th time the tree rat just sat under the feeder and ducked out of the way taunting the hawk. it was pretty amazing to watch!

The PVC pipe works and is the cheapest and simpliest solution I have found. Dang coons cost me a nice Ontime Feeder last year. Totally destroyed it. Now I use the pvc pipes.

how are you attaching the PVC pipe? can't tell from the picture.
I made a road trip out to Ozona and back last Friday. coons or porcupine had demolished 2 of my three feeders, cages, motor boxes. I had just filled all of them 4 weeks ago, so looks like they had a feast one or two nights.

PVC Pipe fixed my problem. Its attached with wire to the top of the legs. They get on and it spins around and flips them off...you have to see it to believe it!

The picture has the same idea that I use, I cut the 10 ft sections in half and just let them sit on the ground need to use 4" PVC, you can bolt or screw the sections to the legs. The left over 5' I made a feeder for the pigs to roll on the ground.

eliminator plates on the corn feeders are the most simple and best way.

I did the pvc before also. Mine would learn to grab the middle of it and when it swiveled they would swing and grab the cage or timer with their feet.

Coons appear capable of problem solving. When you think you have them beat they are just rethinking their options. I put OnTime feeder cages on my feeders. That worked for a while. Then they figured out how to reach in and spin the plate. I countered by putting thin sheet metal on the cages at the level of the spinner. They had a designated hitter coon with at least one long skinny leg/paw and he still could spin the plate. I countered by covering the cage with a finer mesh metal screen. Right now I'm ahead but they probably have a problem solving team that's working on defeating my defense. I'm ready. Bring it on...
