A larger coon cage will help a lot. They can still reach inside to the spinner plate and the ladder rungs make it easier for them to gain more leverage. Good luck. Buy you some Dog Proof traps and work on them when you are out there. That will help a lot.

They work very well, but 1 word of advice on them as they're not cheap:

Make sure the trap is secure as all get out. I used very heavy duty steal wire to tie 3 traps to trees a couple weeks ago. I'm talking heavy enough wire that I had to use pliers to twist it, couldn't with my gloved fingers.

After going completely nuclear running in circles around the tree for what must have been hours based on the appearance of the bark, a coon actually undid my wire tie. May not sound that hard to believe, but if you saw how heavily that wire was secured, it's almost unbelievable for me to imagine some human didn't do it, but I slept out there that night and know no one did.

Crazy how strong a panicked coon can be.

I took short pieces of plumber's strap and put 4 down each side using larger self tapping screws. That should fix it!

I found that Triple C Hardware in Ozona is NOT open at 4:00 pm on Saturday bang 5.5 hour drive one way to fix the coon cage but didn't have any corn to re-fill bang ... Then about the time I was passing back thru Sonora , I realized the grocery store at the north end of Ozona usually has corn, but I wasn't turning around again. bang

I was kinda shocked that the deer out there still have antlers??? Isn't it kinda late??? I probably saw a dozen or more heading down Pandale road still sporting headgear.

Sounds like one of my more productive days. laugh

Deer in our neighborhood and out at my place are still carrying headgear. (Bexar/Gillespie)
