I keep whatever powder I'm using next to the measure while all the others are on the shelf.

This is a human factor issue. It can happen to anyone.

Most seriously: if you've ever emptied the powder hopper into the wrong jug, you've made the same basic mistake. And yes, I have done that. I figure I'm a purty fart smeller, so I also figure if it can happen to me I'll bet it can happen to anyone. Don't let it be YOU.

Bad mistake!!! That's also about the worst powder switch mistake you can make. Fast burning pistol powder for a rifle powder. Yeah, that's a grenade.

I keep the jugs sealed in metal surplus ammo cans and only get one out at a time. Man, that's scary.

There's something to recommend in the way that the old IMR powders came in color-coded cans. I'd like to see all the powder companies use colored labels again.

As for me, after I add powder to my dispenser, I place the can/bottle right beside and just behind the charging lever so I know what I'm loading. And only one powder is ever on my loading bench; the rest stay in the locker until it's their turn.

It's like defensive driving.....you can never be too careful. Good lesson for all of us.

That's the way to do it. Plus, always empty the hopper of your measure into that jug as soon as you're finished charging cases. That would have saved me from ruining a couple of pounds of powder AND the potential ensuing disaster had I not realized my mistake. All the stinkin clutter I had on my bench at the time didn't help matters either.

Empty the Chargemaster after I'm done and only one powder on the bench at a time. That guy is fortunate he still has a hand and a face. Bad deal for sure.

I keep my powder in an entirely different area of the house. I walk it out to my bench in the garage, read the label, pour it in the hopper, leave it there label facing me until I pour it back in.

If I'm loading a different caliber/powder? I bring that one back inside, get the other, and repeat.

I used to not follow this rule until I accidentally poured two dif kinds of powder together. Thankfully I realized what I had done before any harm came of it, but at that moment I stuck all my powder cans in a file cabinet drawer except the one I am currently working on.

I keep all my powder in a cabinet separate from my bench. I have to get up and walk to the cabinet to get whichever powder I intend to use. I check my load data for powder type, charge, bullet and seating depth. Adjust my powder measure and start loading. I weigh every fifth to eighth load, depending on loading block I am using, to make sure my powder measure is still on. If not, that last row of cases gets emptied back to the measure, readjust and start over. After charging all the cases, I recheck the scale setting, powder type, visually inspect every case charge and measure one last charge. Then, I empty the measure back into the container and put the powder back in the cabinet then, go about seating bullets. This is one lucky fellow, I hope he is able to keep his fingers. As long as he has been reloading, you would think it wouldn't happen, but it most certainly does. I still load with a single stage setup and always will. It is not as fast as progressives but I feel I have more control over each and every load. Lesson learned and reinforced for all of us reloaders.

Another reminder. Don't confuse IMR and H. They are NOT the same. A safe load of say H4895 in a manual isn't safe if IMR 4895 is substituted.

Great reminder. I will not buy the same number in both H and IMR for this reason (so I chose only H4381 and only IMR4350)
