So when you go to the mountains or you send it ballistic data from summer time conditions and you change all that, the turrets are now wrong. They are preying on the uneducated.

But you can adjust the rings!!!!

the custom turrets for hunting are fantastic; i recently got to visit Huskemaw Optics and run the new BD 5-20 thru some tests. You give them the ballistic data for your load and they custom make you as many turrets as you want; most people get them done for 0-2000; 2000-4000; 4000-6000 and 6000-8000 DA's. The turrets I used were spot on and a good friend of mine has used his from the high mountains of Wyoming to the flat lands of south Texas. For the hunting application I think they are fantastic.

Good idea on turrets, i get a kick out of this thread and the lack of understanding

Since it bears on the conversation again.

Similar to what you do JG, I wrap a thin piece of label completely around the turret just above the MIL marks. Then I mark the label in pencil. That way I can erase and change it when dope changes, as needed. But honestly, I just use it more of an idiot check to make sure I didn't dial 1.9 when I should have dialed 2.9, or something like that. I have a laminated dope card in my stock pack, and dial MILS. I also have velocity corrected data in Shooter on my phone as well. Several different ways to skin the cat just in case something goes wrong.

I like the idea using the label maker but I have a question. How can I make this work when my turrets are 5 mils per rev? I'm afraid that I will loose track after the first rev when I'm going 700 and beyond. I guess I'll just have to buy a new scope with 10 mil per revolution. Dang . I hate having to buy new toys . I see a new Burris in my future maybe.

Those labels are more for quick reference while hunting. Having said that, are you going to try shots past 700 yards? Coyote or hot, I would. Have a separate DOPE chart handy and just add what ever is needed to 5.0 Mils.

There are rev indicators on the body of the scope, below the turrets. Ideally, when you are on your 100 yard zero you are sitting on rev 0, or rev 1. Make a mental note as to which rev is your 100 yard zero.

You can also take one of those silver sharpies and make a reference mark right below the bottom edge of the turret cap as reference. If you are on the wrong revolution it is easy to tell at a glance. I am with JG, I just mark the first rev as reference for quick medium range shots when I am calling coyotes. If the distance carries me past 1 rev, then I much prefer to go off dope and drop charts.
