First thing I would like to say is I spend a lot of money on top notch equipment, practice a lot, and spend money on training to be able to make ethical long range shots on animals. I assure you if I am not 100% confident that I can make an ethical shot at ANY distance I would not take it.

Now to the actual people interested!

I took my first Mule deer of the season the first day I have been able to hunt on our land! This is the first season it has ever happened this way for me.

We where driving and glassing most of the day with little to no luck. It was about 3:30 when I spotted this deer 1249 yards away laying down. My buddy and I moved closer keeping a close watch on him. After about an hour and a half I noticed that he was starting to get up. My buddy ranged him (709 yards) and I dialed the scope in. The deer stood up quartered slightly away when I pulled the trigger. The deer dropped about 25 yards from where I shot it.

The rifle was built by Horizon firearms 300 win mag, 26" barrel, 180 gr hornady SST.

Impressive. 500 yards is my farthest shot. I shot a 6x5 elk at that range and my largest mule deer both at 500 yards. The elk wasn't anything special, just the end of the week and he was the best I'd seen. The mule deer was a nice 28 inch 4x4.

Congratulations,
Eddie

Yep you sure do spend lots of money on your equipment and that's a hell of a shot and a hell of a deer. Congrats! Just curious as to why with your budget that you have such a crappy scope on such an awesome rifle?

That's why Horizon gets that kind of money. Great rig, great shot. Congrats on your success!

I don't consider my Leupold to be crappy. I have a Swarovski on a couple of my other rifles and yes it doesn't have the glass those do but it does have the repeatability, weight I want and the turrets to accurately dial in distance. Plus it's made in america and is my lucky scope aim

Impressive. My rangefinder won't go out to 700 yards, so I guess I would have had to try and get a little closer. Lol
