Walter asked me if I could come run my dogs for a group of 4 hunters from Dallas Woods an Waters club Saturday, so I loaded up Jake, Daisy & Bleu and headed to his place. I'm very impressed, his cover is great and we had a great hunt. Jake & Daisy did great as usual, Bleu was a little unruly and will be on a check cord in the morning getting worked on some pigeons, he just didn't want to honor the other dogs points. One of the guys we hunted with brought his dog (His name is Bar,a Griffon), he was hunting Quail for the first time and did fantastic (he has hunted Pheasants a few times) at the end Walter let out 3 of his dogs and they also did great. They killed 30 of the 40 birds planted (lost 3 of the 30). If you are in the Dallas area and looking for a close place with great cover to get your dog on some birds, or you don't have any dogs and want to go on a guided bird hunt, Poetry Shooting Club is the place to go. All in all it was a great trip, my dogs got to hunt up several birds, I made some new friends and I made a little cash in my pocket to boot. The two tall guys on the left in the group picture hunted right before us but they are also Dallas Woods and Water club members, the one on the far right is Walter.

Sounds and looks like a lot of fun.

Walter, Walter, Walter, you should require blaze orange for all.

That's as good of a recovery rate as I've seen except maybe for Nathan Nelson and he cheats.

Get a tight / steady dog on point & work the other dog in on check cord, when he see's the other dog, I whoa him, launch the bird and repeat. In all honesty, I haven't had to do any of that much, they have all backed naturally and Bleu did too till this season (he did much better this weekend on wild birds after our little training session)
